So, I was pondering upon why Parisian buildings are considered so beautiful. What makes your eyes shift upwards so comfortably whenever you take a walk around town? Let’s face it, the majority of them have plain facades. Then, what’s the one characteristic that really distinguishes Parisian buildings from any other buildings in the world? Their details. Those little iron railings. Wait-what? Railings. That’s how Paris made itself different. Now, how does that have anything to with what I’m about to introduce you to? It’s precisely the details. The key to differentiation. Being obsessed with details all my life, Kragrlica is a brand of accessories I fell for as soon as I laid my eyes upon.

The name, which is Croatian (as the brand) is made up of the words kragna (collar) and ogrlica (necklace). There, you’ve guessed well. Something right in between. It’s a unique, hand-made collection of accessories for your lovely little necks. Perfect for anything from fancy events to every-day occasions, Kragrlica indeed suits a range of different styles and tastes. The creator of this new line of neckwear, Miss Ana, kindly agreed to answer a few of my questions. 1. Can you briefly tell us about the history of your brand? How did you start off, where did you get the idea from? One foggy autumn afternoon I came across leather as a material to work with, and it crossed my mind that it’s ideal for making collars. Nothing too innovative, I know, but at the time I was engraving film motifs on collars that were intended primarily for my friends. So it started.


2. How satisfied are you with the reception of your brand, how it is to be a designer of this kind in Croatia? Croatia is a country with low living standards and is currently experiencing a major crisis, which is not exactly a terrific recipe for success in this area, but I can not complain that the reception is absent. Where there is a desire to work, progress and creativity, it’s impossible to have bad results.


3. What do you think sets you apart from other similar brands? What’s your key concept? Well…I’m reluctant to answer questions like this because I wouldn’t like to glorify my own work or depreciate someone else’s. I don’t think I need to communicate the differences of my brand when my work best speaks for itself, individuals perceive it as they wish.

 4. Can you tell us something about your collection – what materials do you mainly use? The key material, that is the base of the collars, is leather that I build on with different leather cut-outs, chains and metal elements or fabrics. Recently, we also offer versions of “puff” collars from faux leather, which is a cheaper version for those who’s priorities are lower prices.

 5. Any specific plans for the future? Of course, but I’m pretty relaxed about them. I’m currently working on a new collection which should be completed in the spring. I intend on further developing my ideas and skills in the design area, but I’m also interested in new opportunities.

Dakle, malo sam razmišljala o tome što čini pariške zgrade toliko lijepima. Što je to toliko oku ugodno da stalno tjera pogled prema gore dok šećeš gradom? Većina ih imaju obične fasade. Koja ih stvar uistinu razlikuje od svih ostalih zgrada na ovom svijetu? Detalji. One male željezne ograde. Ček– šta? Ograde. Radi toga je Pariz drugačiji. Dobro, kakve to sad ima veze s onim što ću vam predstaviti? Upravo detalji- ključ diferencijaciji. Kako sam opsjednuta s detaljima od kad znam za sebe, Kragrlica je brand za kojeg mi je zapelo oko čim sam naišla na prvu fotku online.

Ime na hrvatskom mislim da baš i ne moram previše objašnjavati, jer ste vjerojatno dobro pogodili da se radi o nečem upravo između kragnice i ogrlice. To su jedinstveni, ručno rađeni modni dodaci koji su tu da ukrase vaš vrat. Savršeno za bilo kakav događaj- od ušminkanog partyja do svakodnevnih prigoda, Kragrlice doista odgovaraju nizu različitih modnih stilova i ukusa. Dizajnerica ovog maštovitog branda, Ana, je ljubazno pristala odgovoriti na nekoliko mojih pitanja.  1. Možete li ukratko ispričati povijest svog branda? Kako ste započeli, odakle vam ideja?
Jedne maglovite jeseni došla sam u doticaj s kožom kao materijalom i palo mi je napamet da je idealna za izradu ovratnika. Ništa inovativno, znam, ali vrijeme sam ispunjavala izražavajući neke filmske motive na ovratnicima koji su prije svega namijenjeni mojim prijateljima. Tako je krenulo.

2. Kako ste zadovoljni recepcijom u Hrvatskoj, kako je biti dizajner ovakve vrste u Hrvatskoj?
Hrvatska je zemlja s niskim životnim standardima i trenutno proživljava veliku krizu, što i nije baš sjajan recept za uspjeh na ovom području, no ne mogu se požaliti da je recepcija izostala. Gdje god postoji želja za radom, napretkom i kreativnim procesima, nemoguće je da izostanu rezultati.

3.  Što smatrate da vas razlikuje od ostalih sličnih brandova? Koji je vaš ključni koncept?
Paa… nevoljko odgovaram na ovakva pitanja jer mi nije u cilju veličati  svoj rad ili umanjivati tuđi. Mislim da nije potrebno verbalizirati razlike kad radovi najbolje govore sami za sebe i na pojedincima je da ih precipiraju kako žele.

4. Možete li ispričati nešto o svojim kolekcijama – koje materijale koristite?
Ključni materijal koji je baza svih ovratnika jest koža koja se nadograđuje motivima izrezanim iz kože, lancima i metalnim elementima ili pak tkaninama. U posljednje vrijeme u ponudi je i verzija „pufastih“ ovratnika od eko-kože, što je jeftinija verzija za one kojima su prioriteti niže cijene.

5. Imate li već određene planove za budućnost?
Naravno da imam, ali dosta sam opuštena po tom pitanju. Trenutno radim na novoj kolekciji koja bi trebala biti gotova u proljeće. I dalje namjeravam razvijati svoje ideje i sposobnosti na dizajenrskom području, ali zanimaju me i druge mogućnosti.
